Filespace policy

IT Services is committed to providing the computer file space necessary to support the learning, teaching, and research of all students and staff at the University. A file space quota system is required to support this commitment to prevent an individual from "hogging" too much resource to the detriment of others.

Each person is allocated a default amount of file space according to their role at the University - undergraduate, postgraduate or member of staff.

Anyone needing more file space for their work on IT Services computers should use the Request for more file space online form. IT Services may ask undergraduates to provide confirmation from their course tutor, and postgraduates to provide confirmation from their supervisor, about the additional file space that they need for their work.

IT Services currently provides file space in several places:

Available to everyone

  • Mailstore - Inbox and folders where mail messages are stored
  • Filestore - for students and staff using IT Services PCs, Macs and Linux systems (includes N:drive)

For staff with "office" PCs managed by IT Services

  • PC N:drive and G:drive (Group) or other network / shared drives as appropriate.

For staff with "admin" PCs managed by IT Services

  • PC H:drive (Home or My Documents) and G:drive (Group)
