Download the media symposium leaflet [PDF 4.34MB] for further details on this event. This leaflet also includes information on how to book and the cost of this event.
This year the symposium will focus on the theme of 'Mediated Memories' and will include a strand on the uses and construction of memory in contemporary media practice. Presentations are also invited on any other aspect of media practice research and teaching and from people working across disciplines who are using digital media.
Delegates wishing to discuss their practice-based research are welcome to present work in progress as well as completed projects.
Topics for consideration could include, but are not restricted to:
- the use and creation of archives
- oral histories
- family memories
- cultural memory and narrative
- cultural memory and documentary practice
- forgetfulness in the age of information
- dementia
- home movies past and present
- the uses of nostalgia
- reminiscence
- computer memory
- memory and identity
- amnesia and the unconscious
We would be particularly interested in receiving proposals from groups of collaborators on projects involving creative practice.
Please provide an abstract of not more than 250 words outlining the main points of your presentation. Successful submissions will be allocated a 30 minute slot in the conference programme (20 minutes plus 10 for questions). The deadline for submissions is Monday 20th April 2009.
