Foley Studio

(New Foley Studio coming in Autumn 2024)

The current Foley Studio:

The Foley Studio is a space specifically designed for audio production and post-production. The space is divided into two areas: the control room and the live room, with a small corridor in between. The control room features a Toft ATB24 mixing desk, a MOTU 16A audio interface, Sonifex RB-HD6 headphone distribution amplifier, and five Genelec 8040 monitors with a subwoofer. There is a Mac Mini M1 with three Dell 27" screens. Installed on the computer is the Adobe CC, including Adobe Audition, Avid Pro Tools, Apple Logic Pro, REAPER, and iZotope RX8.

The studio can be set up for stereo recording and mixing as well as 5.1 surround sound. The live room is a fairly big space with a modular set-up. To improve the overall sound in the studio, we have recently purchased 16 acoustic gobos, two sound absorption blankets with grommets, and a portable isolation booth. There are 4 big plastic pits – one filled with pebbles, one with sand, and two empty ones that can be used for other materials – and a wooden floorboard pit, which can all be used to recreate sounds on different surfaces. There’s a TV screen, plugged into the computer in the control room, which can be used for sync sound performance. There’s also a table and two chairs that can be used for sit-down podcast recording or used to support props for sound effects recording. All microphones and cables need to be booked out from the equipment stores but there are three telescopic mic stands in the studio that you can use. We also have a Foley Prop Room where we store all the props available and a couple of different tubs for any water related sound recording. The key for this room can be booked on our online booking system SiSo.
