Oscillographics Workshop
Wednesday 20 November 14:00 until 17:00
ÄûÃÊÊÓƵ Campus : Sussex Humanities Lab (opposite SB211) Silverstone Building
Speaker: Alex Peverett & Andrew Duff
Part of the series: Critical & Creative Making workshops
In the U.S. in the early 1950s, Ben F. Laposky used an oscilloscope and hand-made electronic circuits to create abstract art. He is credited with making the first computer graphics and as a pioneer of electronic art using analog circuits and a cathode ray tube oscilloscope.
This workshop will introduce and present a historic overview of Oscillographics and allow hands-on experience of a range of techniques made available through the combination of cheap and accessible ‘junked’ vintage oscilloscopes and a range of now accessible electronic circuits and ‘modules’ that have granted new access to an often forgotten medium.
Participants will be encouraged to engage in discussions and reflections during the workshop and to fill out a brief questionnaire at the end of the event. This workshop is part of a research project conducted by PhD candidate Andrew Duff. The results and feedback may be utilised in future works. Any written feedback or other contributions used in the research will be anonymised.
