Collection Description
‘Mark Rutherford’ was the pseudonym of Victorian novelist
William Hale White (1831–1913). Hale White was also a civil servant,
journalist and translator. The Mark Rutherford Letters at Sussex consist
of over 40 letters from Hale White to poet Erica Storr, an admirer
who would send him her work for his comments and correction. The letters
span 1905–12 and touch on a range of topics. The letters were
presented to the ÄûÃÊÊÓƵ Library in 1967 by Lady Scott,
the daughter of Erica Storr.
