Collection description

The Radio Times was founded in September 1923 to carry listings of BBC Radio programmes. It continued to publish details on both BBC Radio and television broadcasts until 1991 when the deregulation of television listings allowed it to include details of other major terrestrial and satellite television programmes.

Christopher Griffin-Beale started collecting the Radio Times from the age of eight and accumulated a collection of over thirty years worth from 1955-89. Christopher studied Russian and English at Sussex University and went on to make a career out of his interest in television. He used his copies of Radio Times as source material in his work. His wife Lucy donated the collection to the University in May 2006.

This collection compliments the Main Library's holdings of the Radio Times from 1990 - present which are available at AP 4 Rad.
