British Library Articles

Article requests from the British Library will be sent as unencrypted PDF documents via their On Demand service and delivered to your registered ÄûÃÊÊÓƵ email address.

 Please note the link to your document will only remain active for 30 days from the date the email is sent. We recommend saving your document to your computer.

You may print one paper copy for private study or research for non-commercial purposes. Do not make additional printed copies or forward the document to others.

 Articles from other libraries (non-British Library) will be forwarded to your Sussex email address.

Requesting a journal article, conference paper or chapter from a book:

  1. Check Availability: Check Library Search before requesting to ensure the item is not already in stock or available electronically
  2. Submit Request: Click on the 'Place an Interlibrary Request' box at the top of this page. Sign in with your Sussex username and password.
  3. Select Article Request form and provide full bibliographic details to speed up your request
  4. Copyright Declaration: Read and agree to the terms by ticking the check box before submitting your request. 

 

Troubleshooting

  • My document won't open / has blank pages

    1. Check your internet connection: You need to be online to open your document.

    2. Adobe Reader version: Ensure you have Adobe Reader version 10 or later. If accessing from a student or staff PC, this should already be installed.

    Still can't open your document?

    1. Expired download link: The link is active for 30 days from the original email sent from noreply@bldss.uk. If it has expired, contact the Interlibrary Requests team.

    2. Locked out by a previous user: If a previous user selected "Remember me on this computer," go to Adobe Reader > Edit > Preferences > Security and choose "Clear remembered account information," then retry the download link.

  • Can I use an alternative pdf viewer?

    No, documents only work with Adobe Reader 10 or above. They will not open with any other PDF viewer.

  • What if I’m using an iPad / mobile device?

    You can download and access your document using the free Adobe Reader app from the App Store. After clicking the download link, choose to open it with the Adobe app. On an iPad, select Adobe from the "Open with…" option at the top right of your screen.

  • Can I share the document with someone else?

    No, documents are supplied for your personal use only.
