HR Excellence In Research

The ÄûÃÊÊÓƵ has held the HR Excellence in Research award since 2013. It recognises ongoing efforts across the institution to improve working conditions and career development opportunities for researchers.

HR Excellence in Research accreditation is afforded to European institutions that are making progress against their HR Strategy for Researchers. It recognises the measures taken to implement the principles of the .

At Sussex, the Early Career Researcher Sub-Committee oversees progress against the Action Plan. The University undertakes a formal review every three years, documenting progress since the last submission and setting out its strategy for the next cycle.

Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers 


The Concordat is an agreement between employers of researchers and research funders on the expectations for the professional development and employment conditions of researchers in the UK.

 sets out the expectations and responsibilities of researchers, their managers, employers and funders. It aims to increase the attractiveness and sustainability of research careers in the UK and to improve the quantity, quality and impact of research for the benefit of UK society and the economy.
