Impact

Policy

  • In March 2015, Professor Louise Morley’s 2013 Stimulus Paper ‘Women in Higher Education Leadership’ enabled HEFCE, CUC, UUK, LFHE, ECU, GuildHE and UCEA to identifying solutions to the issues faced by women in HE. This is evidenced by an email exchange of the 12th March 2015 between Amy Norton (HEFCE) and Louise Morley (available).
  • In February 2015, Professor Louise Morley and Dr Barbara Crossouard reported to the Global Education Dialogue (GED – British Council) in New Delhi, India. GEDs bring together key policy-makers and influencers to debate the challenges and opportunities facing international higher education. They are facilitated dialogues between governments, universities and industry, with contributions and fresh perspectives from our network of leading thinkers. Louise’s presentation raised a lot of interest, especially with the Iranian delegation, who requested a copy of her presentation.
  • Both Louise and Barbara were invited to address a number of institutional stakeholders. For instance, Barbara attended the launch of the British Council report 'New Horizons: Higher Education and Skills in South Asia', which included a summary of CHEER’s British Council funded research into Women's Leadership in Higher Education in South Asia, June 2015.
  • Professor Louise Morley visited the National Academy of Science and Technology in Kathmandu, Nepal where she presented Women in Higher Education Leadership in South Asia: Rejection, refusal, reluctance, revisioning and had meetings about the findings of a British Council-funded research project on women in higher education leadership in South Asia. The seminar was attended by academics, NGOs and colleagues from relevant ministries, including Mr Ganesh Shah from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
  • Professor Louise Morley presented 'Lost Leaders: Women in the Global Academy' as part of a roundtable on 'Women and Leadership in Higher Education' at Oxford Brookes University. Other participants included colleagues from HEFCE, the Equality Challenge Unit and Lord Davies' Women on Boards Steering Group, Executive Search Agencies and the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, November 2014.
  • Professor Louise Morley presented the findings from the 'Women in Higher Education Leadership in South Asia' project to a British Council Global Education Dialogue 'South Asia Policy Roundtable: Revolution and Realities in the New Economic Order' at SOAS, London, January 2015. The event was attended by ministers of higher education and policymakers from around the South Asian region. January 2015.
