Update: Fake tax refund emails

You may have received a fake email about a tax refund. The email looks like a genuine HMRC message, but it will come from an address like hotmail.com or gmail.com.
If you follow the link in this email, you will visit a fake website run by criminals.
We have emailed almost 500 students and staff who clicked on the link.
If you think you might have given away your details in this scam, please take the following action immediately:
- If you gave away your bank details, you should contact your bank
- If you entered your Sussex password, please change it using Sussex Direct

More students and staff have received fake tax refund emails today. We are working to improve our protection against this phishing attack.
