Windows 7 reaches end-of-life

Windows 7 was launched in 2009 and it’s now coming to the end of its lifespan. It only makes sense to maintain an operating system for so long, with the newer and more secure Windows 10 available as the default system for new computers.

Windows 7 will reach in January next year. From that time, it won’t get any security updates and it’ll become progressively less secure and stable. Effectively, from January 2020, Windows 7 should not be considered a safe system to use.

IT Services is planning the roll-out of Windows 10 at Sussex, and we’ll have more news about that soon. In the meantime, you should consider how you’re going to maintain your security at home.

If you’re still running Windows 7 at home, it’s time to upgrade. We strongly recommend that you begin replacing Windows 7 as soon as you can. If your hardware can’t run Windows 10, it’s also time to consider replacing and upgrading.
