On 25 September 2024, the ÄûÃÊÊÓƵ Business School proudly participated in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) , a global initiative to promote awareness and action towards achieving the 17 SDGs.
This term, the Business School has launched two significant initiatives aimed at embedding sustainability into the core of our educational programmes: the project and workshops. These initiatives are designed to engage students in meaningful activities that enhance their understanding of sustainability issues and develop their employability skills.
Rewired Earth: Driving Accountability and Innovation
Rewired Earth is a non-profit organization that collaborates with businesses and governments to promote transparency and accountability in sustainability efforts. This term, 30 students in the Leadership Foundation module will participate in a collaborative project and competition with Rewired Earth. They will develop innovative sustainability solutions and present their proposals at the UK Parliament in the House of Commons, with the chance to win internships with leading businesses. This initiative not only enhances students' knowledge but also provides them with valuable real-world experience and networking opportunities.
Climate Fresk Workshops: Understanding Climate Change
The Climate Fresk workshops are interactive sessions that educate students about the science and impacts of climate change. Led by trained facilitators, these workshops use a collaborative approach to help students grasp the complexities of climate issues.
Participation in Sulitest: Enhancing Sustainability Literacy
As part of our commitment to sustainability education, 500 students participating in the Climate Fresk workshops and the Intro to Business and Management core module will also undertake the TASK assessment. This globally recognised test evaluates students' knowledge of sustainability and awards a certificate upon completion. The certificate can be added to their CVs and LinkedIn profiles, showcasing their understanding of sustainability issues and enhancing their employability. This initiative not only prepares students for future challenges but also highlights the Business School's dedication to fostering a culture of sustainability literacy. The School is the first TASK Change Leader at a UK institution and in its first year over 1000 students achieved the Sulitest TASK certificate.
A Commitment to a Sustainable Future
Raising the UN SDG Flag shows our ongoing commitment to sustainability education. By integrating initiatives like Rewired Earth and Climate Fresk into our curriculum, we are equipping our students with the knowledge and skills needed to drive positive change in their personal and professional lives. Our degree programmes offer curriculum modules that directly address many of the SDGs.
Farai Jena, Associate Director of Education and Students, remarked, "Our participation in the UN SDG Flag Campaign underscores our dedication to sustainability and the holistic development of our students. Through initiatives like Rewired Earth and Climate Fresk, we are not only educating our students about critical global issues but also empowering them to become leaders in sustainability."
We invite all members of the university community and our external partners to join us in celebrating this important campaign and supporting our sustainability initiatives. Together, we can make a significant impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.
