How we are managing RAAC on campus

We are continuing to survey and replace RAAC used in the original construction of our campus buildings. RAAC has now been found to have been used in the construction of seven university buildings.
Where necessary, safety measures such as scaffolding props are in place. The condition of the RAAC panels in each building is regularly checked to ensure that our safety measures continue to be effective and all buildings remain open and safe to use.
Here is an update on our impacted buildings:
Arts A: A recent survey showed that RAAC panels were used in a small area of Arts A during construction. The panels are in good condition and will continue to be monitored.
Arundel: No changes have taken place in Arundel since initial safety measures were put in place – these remain effective and will continue to be monitored.
Bramber House: Work to replace old RAAC panels with new roofing has now started above the two stairwells that border Refectory Road. There are some pedestrian diversions in place – .
Chichester I and Chichester II: Further safety measures have been put in place in Chichester I which required the temporary closure of a few offices in Chichester I and Chichester II. These rooms have now reopened.
Falmer House: Investigations into RAAC in Falmer Hall are still underway. Mandela Hall will remain closed until further safety measures are in place.
JMS: Following the closure of a teaching lab at the end of Autumn term, further surveys took place and additional safety measures were installed - the teaching lab was back in full use for the start of teaching this term.
