Former Sussex student named Poet Laureate of the British Virgin Islands
Richard Georges, who received his PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at Sussex in 2017 has been named the first ever Poet Laureate of the British Virgin Islands (BVI).
The designation of a Virgin Islands Poet Laureate is the BVI’s way to express its love and appreciation for the art of poetry. A Poet Laureate is the official poet ambassador of the territory and is selected from amongst the territory’s most accomplished poets and must serve for three years.
Dr Georges, who has also recently been named the President of the H Lavity Stoutt Community College, was supervised by and while studying for his PhD at Sussex.
